December 2012

Dear Class of 2014,
As the Fall 2012 semester is closing to make way for the Holidays, hopefully you all are ready to end it well.  As much as all of us have been looking forward to finishing this up, it really seems like it went by too fast and now here we are a week away from finals one more time.  Thankfully registration for Spring 2013 has ended and although you may not have gotten into every class you wanted, there is always the add/drop period.  But just in case you need to make some adjustments to your schedule during the add/drop period, remember to not saturate your Tuesdays and Thursdays as those days tend to be pretty exhausting (each class is 75 minutes long so try not to take too many!).  more>>

I Highly Recommend
If you can look past the final exams and term papers and projects, you’ll see the holidays waiting just behind them.  By now, the anxiety that accompanied your first year – and maybe some of your second – has dissipated.   And the excitement of finishing your penultimate semester won’t come until next year.  Third-year is more of a grind-it-out-I’ve-done-this-all-before experience.  You can see the prize, but it’s hard to maintain your focus on it from this distance.  So, here are some recommendations for ways to keep up momentum as you slide toward your final year at Trinity.  more>>

Surviving Exam Period
Exam period is coming, and this is a great opportunity to solidify a strong GPA!  Therefore, it is in your best interest to start preparing now.   First, make a list of all your remaining assignments and exams.   Second, break each task into manageable steps.  Third, estimate how many hours it will take you to accomplish each step for each item on your list.  Fourth, put the items on a calendar with your time estimates written next to them.  Now you can see how many hours of work are needed on the days leading up to each due date, so you can plan accordingly.  For more specific study skills, please visit Counseling Services’ self-help page.

Dear Juniors,
The annual Winter Break Making Connections events are coming up in early January!  Hosted by Trinity Alumni Chapters, these events are special opportunities for students and alumni to come together, network, and build lasting, professional relationships. As you move closer to graduation, networking becomes more and more important.  Relationships with alumni can prove to be invaluable when you transition from college to career.  So, mark your calendars!  You can find more information about these events and R.S.V.P. in TigerJobs. Finally, we’d like to remind you that our office will remain open December 1 – 21, so feel free to call for an appointment with a career advisor (we also meet with students via Skype!) at 210-999-8321.  We’ll be closed December 24 – January 1.   We wish you the best of luck on your final exams, and we look forward to your return next semester! more>>

Residents are expected to leave 24 hours after their last final.   Door locks will be disabled at noon on Saturday, December 15, 2012.  Once the building has been officially closed, keys will not work and re-entry will not be allowed until halls reopen on Sunday, January 13, 2013 so please remember to pack important items (i.e. passports, prescription medicine, contact lenses, etc.).  Students may leave belongings in the room over the break and will not need to turn in keys.
