“Remember,
remember, [what to do in] November”
Dear
Class of 2014,
Happy November everyone! There is so much to do this month as the end
of the semester and 2012 approaches. But
don’t panic; just take a few deep breaths (seriously, at least three of them,
each time you begin to feel overwhelmed).
November marks the last full month of classes, registration/enrollment
for next semester, Thanksgiving break (yay!), and this year we have a national
election; I hope you all vote(d). I
wanted to share a few thoughts and some advice regarding all these topics. more>>

You Can't Use It Up
Two years
after I graduated from Trinity, I was finally able to vote in my first
Presidential election. I was in the Army
and stationed overseas at the time, so my ballot was absentee. But using it felt great. My candidate didn’t win (I have a long
history of backing the losing candidate), but I did what I could. I had worked for my favorite candidates while
I was in high school, and was politically active during my years at Trinity, but
the voting age was 21 and an election didn’t roll around for me until I was
24. We could get drafted into the
military at 18 and sent to fight in Vietnam, but we had no vote to cast for the
Commander-in-Chief.
I’ve never
missed voting in a Presidential election, maybe because I wanted to long before
I was able to. I urge my friends to
vote, and many of them do. Too many
don’t.
I recently
read an article saying that the year I cast my first ballot, I was one of the
53% of people under 30 who voted in that election. In 2008, despite the surge in interest among
young voters, only 46% went to the polls.
Some political observers are predicting that you guys will be even more
complacent this year than the “class” of 2008.
Prove them wrong. more>>

Men and women interested in joining the fraternity and sorority community attended Greek 101 on Wednesday, October 17 in Laurie Auditorium. Students had the opportunity to meet and mingle with the 10 organizations prior to a formal presentation about requirements for membership, the four pillars of fraternity and sorority life, online resources, and introductions from each of the 10 organization presidents. If you didn’t make it to Greek 101 but are still interested in joining the Fraternity & Sorority Community, contact Women's Rush & Orientation Chair - Jen Lewis (ΣΘΤ) and the Men's Rush & Orientation Chair - Derek Tinker(ΩΦ). Students can learn more information on the fraternity and sorority homepage.
