Happy
Break: Replenish your Energy!
Dear
Class of 2014.
I hope you are all “hanging in there”
during these few days before our Thanksgiving break. Whether you celebrate this holiday or not, it
will be a much-needed respite from the long haul that is Fall semester. I have said it many times before that we really
don’t have much of a break until the very end of Fall when everyone (students,
faculty, and staff included) is tired and overwhelmed. My main advice is to take it easy, take a
deep breath (I always recommend this, no matter the occasion), and treat yourself
kindly. Perhaps it
would be worth it to do something fun like attending a theater production, go
dancing, go to the movies, get a massage, take a yoga class, or just sit around
and talk to friends/family. Do anything
that gives your brain a break and your body a chance to recuperate from all the
stress caused by the demands on your schedule.
Our brains and bodies can only take so much. It’s no coincidence that this is the time
when more students fall ill from demanding too much of themselves. But our body is wiser than our mind and it
will take over. Eventually, you risk
being knocked down for a couple of days with the flu or other ailments where
you will have no choice but to rest. So
why not rest a bit at a time instead?
Remember that we still have about two more weeks after our break. So
allow yourselves the kindness of fun, enjoy the holiday, and come back with all
your might to finish your second to last semester at Trinity University. Safe travels!
